David Baszucki

Born in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1963 and raised in Minnesota, Baszucki developed early passions for science fiction and outdoor activities like dirt biking. A graduate of electrical engineering and computer science at Stanford University, Baszucki was a General Motors Scholar. He now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife Jan, a novelist and mental health activist, and their four children.

Roblox Corporation 

David Baszucki is the founder and leader of Roblox Corporation, an innovative global platform that empowers millions of users, particularly kids and young teens, to create, share, and enjoy user-generated 3D gaming worlds. Under his leadership, Roblox pioneered the first to spread the gospel of the metaverse: a concurrent persistent virtual world that combines gaming, socialization, education, and entrepreneurship. 

The platform development tool, Roblox Studio, provides game makers with tools to build and monetize their games. Since becoming public in 2021, Roblox has become a large cultural and economic center with tens of millions of active users per day. 

Knowledge Revolution 

In the late 1980s, Baszucki and his brother Greg started Knowledge Revolution, a software firm that produced educational software products such as Interactive Physics, which enabled users to simulate physical phenomena and which formed a technological foundation for Roblox's physics engine. 

They also worked on Working Model, aimed at mechanical design. The business was acquired by MSC Software in 1998 for $20 million. Baszucki went on to serve as Vice President and General Manager before departing to explore new things.

After selling Knowledge Revolution, Baszucki founded Baszucki & Associates, an angel venture capital firm that invested in early-stage technology companies like Friendster, the precursor of modern-day social networks. 

These ventures exposed him further to the technology community and prepared him for the development of Roblox. 

Philanthropy and Baszucki Group 

With his wife Jan Ellison Baszucki, David established the Baszucki Group in 2021 to make mission-driven investments in aid of neuropsychiatric research, metabolic health, democracy, and astronomy. Baszucki has committed to donating future Roblox CEO profits to charity. Their own life experience with mental illness informs their philanthropic priorities very closely.
